The dynamic pipe bursting method with GRUNDOCRACK

 

With the dynamic pipe bursting system, old pipes made of clay ware, asbestos, cement, grey cast iron, plastic or plain concrete are shattered and simultaneously replaced by new HDPE pipes (long and short pipes) or PVC-U pipes. Intermediate pits are necessary for sharp bends and off-set pipes. The launching and exit pits can be used as inspection chambers.

 

Pipe bursting is applied when  /in case of

  • The position of the old pipe is disturbed
  • Repair/renovation is no longer possible, e.g. in cases of misalignment, breakage,
  • Missing pipe bedding or partial collapse
  • The hydraulic capacity has to be improved
  • A new pipe with a longer life  performance is required

 

                        

 

The pipe bursting machine dynamically cracks the damaged old pipe and radially displaces the shards into the surrounding soil. The bore hole for the new pipe is expanded at the same time. The pulling force of the winch supports the bursting machine and guarantees precise guidance through the specified bore path. Usually, the soil around the old pipe is easily displaced with hardly any limitations. The displacement of the soil around the old pipe allows the use of a larger pipe (one or perhaps two nominal sizes larger than the old pipe), if this is required. Groundwater lowering is normally not necessary, however, the launch and exit pit must be kept free from water. Following the pipe burst and if required, the annulus around the new pipe can be gradually be filled in. A ring of mortar builds up a complete surface adhesion, together with pipe and surrounding soil (see fig.).

2. Front and rear expander

The front expander is used e.g. if the exit pit is also an inspection chamber. The expander can be disconnected from the machine and recovered in the inspection chamber. The bursting machine, which is longer, can be pulled back to the starting pit through the installed pipe and removed.

 

 

With a rear expander, the bursting machine can be used as a guiding head in the old pipe.

 

 

3. Winch

The special GRUNDOWINCH supports the bursting process with static pulling force and maintains stability of direction. It is equipped with a hydraulic pulling force pre-selection with self-adjusting tension mechanism, in order to keep the pre-tension constant even with changeable ground resistance.
